Resilience Coaching to Better Navigate the Stream of Life

Why begin resilience life coaching? How does it help? Is it really needed?

If you feel like you’re “swimming upstream” instead of being able to “go with the flow of life”, then resilience life coaching is for you. You’re working hard, yet not quite thriving, because you’re not fully using your natural capacities to help you move deftly through ever-changing waters. Yep, I’m using a river metaphor in this post (wink, wink).

You may blame feeling stuck or overly challenged by an inability to get out, but that’s not what’s holding you back. Life continues to flow and you can choose to either adapt to this force of nature, force your way upstream and against it, or get sucked down beneath by an undertow. Those are your options. Going with the flow certainly doesn’t mean mindlessly floating along- life WILL take you on a wild (and occasionally bumpy) ride that can sometimes move too fast, feel too slow, OR have a rhythm that “fits” you, the real you. How you flow can be on your terms, even if where the flow takes you, is not.

But, what do I mean by “flow”?

Psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi wrote, “Life is nothing more than a stream of experiences – the more widely and deeply you swim in it, the richer your life will be” (Creativity: Flow and the Psychology of Discovery and Invention, 2009).

The question, then, is, how do YOU want to move through the flow of life? And, if you’re currently dissatisfied despite your best efforts, resilience life coaching help. I won’t provide a “life raft” to save you. Instead, I’ll help you reframe what’s possible (beyond what your current experience), discover strategies that fit who you are and what you need, and work through a goal-focused process of growth to help you uniquely thrive.

Too often we feel “held back” from thriving because we let internal forces (like brain-based thinking challenges), external forces (like life demands) overwhelm our essence, the good we bring to living.

When thinking challenges hold us back, our attention focuses on “underfit”, or our inability to “fit in” (like we want, like we used to, or like we should….).

When life situations hold us back, our attention focuses on “overfit”, or trying to do too much of something at the expense of balance and feeling centered in our own authenticity (or “being still from within”).

In either case, we fail to see the ways in which our natural capacities DO fit, just as we are. Instead we swim upstream searching for an answer that has been within us all along, or we get pulled down, feeling too stuck without opportunity to come up for air or move in a more desirable direction.

As a Resilience Life Coach, I want to see you thrive, despite your challenges, because I believe you can.
